Director’s Message
It is no surprise that since Maldives territory is 99% sea, maritime training is one of the oldest type in the country. Every one is a sailor in the Maldives. The country has been training seaman for the past 2000 years. This great tradition is continued today at Centre for Maritime Studies. The Centre for Maritime Studies was transferred to the new infrastructure in Villingili and was officially inaugurated by His Excellency President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in October 1995. With the establishment of Maldives College of Higher Education (MCHE) in 1999, the Centre for Maritime Studies was transferred to the umbrella of MCHE. CMS conducts 24 training programmes, which consists of short courses, semester based courses as well as tailor-made courses. We have programmes of study that will give you the best start in life, providing relevant education that works for you. Wherever possible we have developed courses in collaboration with industry, so that when you graduate, in addition to your academic qualifications, you will have the skills and knowledge to make you ready for work. To all the students entering CMS in 2004 to 2005, it is with great pleasure that I extend very warm welcome on behalf of the MCHE and all staff. May you thoroughly enjoy your time with us, as you acquire the knowledge and skills you need to further your careers and contribute to the exciting high-tech developments now taking place in the maritime industry.
